Autumn is still in full swing with leaves littering the pavements, frosty mornings and dark, cosy nights and in our opinion there's no better time of year to make the most of the stunning country we call home!
Mother nature has created a stunning colour palette of rusty oranges and bright yellows and we think why not escape the city and head out to the country to witness this for ourselves?
In our opinion, there's not many places better to head to than 'The Pig' a wonderful hotel in the heart of the New Forest.
This delightful country retreat is known for it's extensive walled garden which provides many of the fresh ingredients used by the hotel kitchen - 95% of the ingredients used are sourced within 25 miles! Imagine, a giant, rural allotment stretching out with an abundance of food growing beneath the surface. Not only that, the menu also changes daily depending on what has been picked by the full-time forager, as well as there being an outdoor wood-fired oven to create even more scrumptious food!
The rooms are the definition of country chic; expect tasteful patterns, free standing baths and oriental carpets or earthy wooden floors. There's even the option of staying in the Pig House, Pig Lodge, or Pig Cabin if you really want an abundance of space.
When it comes to refreshments, there's no room service, but you do get a fully-stocked mini parlor in your room - THE DREAM. There's also a wonderful bar where a wonderful selection of drinks on offer and plenty of squidgy armchairs to recline in, as well as The Pig going above and beyond in providing bespoke products thanks to their decision to team up with Rhône winemaker Michel Chapoutier. They have created three Pig Hut blends including a red, white and rosé all on offer for visitors to indulge in.
The sprawling grounds of the hotel are what really make this place the ideal country retreat for a cosy weekend away. A gentle stroll down the gravel and brick path will lead to further surprises; a smoke house, the kitchen garden, greenhouse, fruit cages, wild flower meadow orchard, chickens and a paddock which houses the main event - five very active pigs! Oh and there's always the New Forest to go for a nice walk in too...
Take our advice and head down to Hampshire for a weekend in crisp weather, exploring the delights that a rural escape the renowned British Countryside can offer.
